The deliberate degree of finish or visible incompletion chosen by the sculptor.
Fini / non fini distinguishes between surfaces or passages carried to a resolved finish and those deliberately left less finished. Non fini can preserve tool marks, rough stone, modeling traces, or incomplete transitions as an expressive part of the work rather than simply indicating abandonment.
Etymology
French fini, 'finished,' and non fini, 'unfinished.'
