Fonderia Artistica Versiliese

Fonderia Artistica Versiliese was founded in 1975 by master craftsman Gino Lucarini

Fonderia Artistica Versiliese was founded in 1975 by master craftsman Gino Lucarini, who developed his bronze-working skills alongside artists active in Pietrasanta. The business later grew with his sons Tiberio, Franco, and Gabriele, while retaining the foundry’s emphasis on craftsmanship, technical problem-solving, and close collaboration with artists.

The foundry offers a complete production chain for sculpture, including enlargement, mold making, wax work, lost-wax casting, assembly, chasing, finishing, and work in other metals and materials. Over nearly fifty years it has produced works ranging from small sculpture to large international public projects and has collaborated with artists including Fernando Botero, Manuel Carbonell, Bernard Bezzina, Sacha Sosno, and others.

Versiliese is particularly interesting because it has expanded beyond conventional bronze sculpture into design, architectural and interior projects, including work for private residences and yachts, while maintaining traditional foundry capabilities.

Fonderia Artistica Versiliese operates from two Pietrasanta locations: the laboratory and administrative office on Via del Castagno, and a separate casting department on Via Martiri di Sant’Anna. For that reason, it is especially important to contact the foundry before visiting so they can direct you to the correct facility for what you want to see.

For a sculptor, Versiliese is useful because it provides the full route from an artist’s model through enlargement, mold, wax, bronze, assembly, and final surface treatment. The foundry has also handled major international commissions, including works installed in the United States, so artists dealing with monumental scale or overseas projects may find their experience particularly relevant.

Its combination of traditional lost-wax casting and broader contemporary fabrication also makes it a useful contrast with the other Pietrasanta foundries: it operates firmly within the sculpture tradition while also extending into design and architectural production.
