Fondazione Centro Arti Visive di Pietrasanta

Fondazione Centro Arti Visive di Pietrasanta (CAVP) is a nonprofit cultural and educational foundation created by the Comune di Pietrasanta, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, and Artigianart Pietrasanta. Its purpose is to promote advanced artistic education while preserving and transmitting the technical-artistic knowledge of the local sculpture community. The Foundation operates the Centro di Arti Visive, a postgraduate-level school based in the former Franciscan convent of San Francesco in Pietrasanta.

CAVP is especially relevant to sculptors because its programs connect formal education with the living craft traditions of Pietrasanta. Its activities have included sculpture workshops, artist training, and collaborations with local master artisans in marble, bronze, terracotta, mosaic, and related fields. Its current institutional mission explicitly includes promoting local artistic craftsmanship, supporting intergenerational transmission of skills, and developing projects that combine traditional techniques with new technologies.

The Foundation also serves as a bridge between artists and the wider cultural structure of Pietrasanta. It publishes public notices and calls, administers training and residency initiatives, and is involved in programs that can create educational and professional opportunities for artists. In 2026, for example, Pietrasanta’s Residenze Atena program is using CAVP as the base for a six-month residency focused in part on sculpture in marble, bronze, terracotta, mosaic, and intarsia, with mentorship from local masters.

CAVP is housed in the former Franciscan convent of San Francesco, within walking distance of central Pietrasanta. The complex includes classrooms, working spaces, a library, common areas, and residential accommodation used for workshops and artist programs.

Because the Foundation is an active educational and administrative institution, it is best to contact the office in advance before visiting. For a practicing sculptor, it is especially worthwhile to ask about current workshops, artist residencies, public calls, training programs, and opportunities to work with local artisans.
