An angelic attendant in Resurrection imagery, announcing, witnessing, or framing Christ's triumph over death.
An Angel of the Resurrection may announce the empty tomb, attend the risen Christ, hold a banner or other sign of victory, or participate in a larger Easter composition.
Etymology
Resurrection from Latin resurrectio, “rising again.”
Sculptor Notes
Resurrection angels often require an upward compositional energy. Wings, banners, drapery, and gaze can amplify ascent, but too many diagonals can dissolve the central figure. The angel should reinforce Christ's movement rather than compete with it.
